What is The West African Examination Council General Certificate Examination?

This is the examination conducted by the west African Examination Council (WAEC) for external candidates. Howbeit, candidates from secondary schools can still rite the exams providing they register.

The exam is very similar to the June July WAEC. The only difference here is that registrations are done on individual basis unlike the normal WAEC in which registration is done by the school of the candidate.

WAEC GCE Registration-How To Register

Registration for WAEC GCE August/September Second Series is a bit different from the registration of the normal May/June WAEC exam. So read keenly to get all details.

Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have announced that registration for the 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, Second Series (August/September), will commence on May 27, 2019, So the date mention is the when WAEC GCE Registration Begin, in case you’ve been asking When will GCE begin their registration this year.

First and Foremost, candidates are expected to pay a registration fee of Thirteen Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifty Naira (N13, 950) only, at branches of the following under listed banks or with any accredited bank and proceed to obtain registration PIN and a VCD which contains all the instructions.

In addition, candidates are require to pay additional N500 to banks or accredited agents

After obtaining PIN, candidates are require to log into  https://registration.waecdirect.org/ for registration.

Candidates with special needs are required to state their disabilities clearly such as blind, low vision, spastic, speech, etc.

Completion of registration: Candidates are required to conclude registration within two weeks of the first access to the website during the registration period. Candidates should ensure as well that their names, gender, passport photographs, date of birth and subjects are correct. They should as will print out admission notice/Photo card as evidence of successful registration which will serve as identification during the examination. The Result Checker PIN will also be on the Photo Card. Only Digital Personal Scanner should be used for fingerprint registration.

Addition General Information

  • Before registration of examination, candidates should view the VCD.
  • Candidates should also note that registration fee is not refundable.
  • Candidates are advised to print their examination timetable at the completion of their registration.
  • Entries must be uploaded with good size photograph not with the “wait and get” kind of photograph. They should also ensure that the background of such photograph is not red or blue. the size of he photograph should be 274 X 314 px. Entries with unacceptable passports photographs will not be accepted.
  • When candidates download the regulations, syllabus and timetable for the examination from the WAEC website (http://www.waeconline.org.ng/) using the Registration PIN, they should ensure that they study it very well.
  • Candidates must go to the examination hall with mufti without arms. No uniform of any kind will be accepted.
  • The entire results of candidates who sit for the exams in more than one centre shall be cancelled.
  • Smoking is highly prohibited.
  • Mobile Gadgets of any kind are prohibited, if such candidate is caught, his or her entire results will be cancelled.
  • Candidates must make sure that their entries are accurately filled before upload as the council will not in any way be responsible for errors in the candidates’ particulars. Request for correction will NOT BE entertained on any information which a candidate voluntarily gives at the point of registration as soon as the examination commences.
  • Candidates must come into the examination hall with their original Photo Cards.
  • Candidates who are caught in exam malpractice will not only have their result cancelled but may likely be prosecuted.

WAEC GCE Registration Closing Date

When is the WAEC closing Date for WAEC GCE registration 2019/2020? The registration will close 60 days from the day registration opened. But that should not make you relaxed and register late. Please make sure you register on time and make sure to get the timetable after the registration.

How do you generate pin for the Registration? The PIN shall be generated at the registration point. Candidate should not leave the registration centre without collecting PIN.

How to Buy your WAEC GCE Pin through Remita

  • Visit the Remita website or the Remita App
  • Choose a preferred payment channel including:
  • Debit/Credit Card,
  • Internet Banking,
  • Mobile Wallet (Pocket Moni, Paga, etc),
  • Branches of all Nigerian Banks, and
  • Designated Agent locations across Nigeria.

Once payment is completed, the exam registration PIN is delivered to candidate’s email and also displayed on the Remita payment receipt sent to the same email.

The candidate is then expected to proceed to WAEC’s website to complete registration with the obtained PIN.
